4/29/10

7:34am-
Wake up wondering whether its am or pm. AM. Whew.

I get up.
Eat something.
Do some computer stuff.
Organize my closet.
Read a book.
Fix my fort.
Go back to sleep.

2:14pm-
Got back up.

4:29pm-
Nearly clotheslined myself on th way in to the subway because my Metro Card is expired.
Good thing I transferred some money into my account RIGHT before I left the house...!
Hopefully it went through.

11:42pm-
You dont realize the skill it takes not only to act, but to act and get the right feel and emotion for a scene while cameras and lights and mics are all up in they're faces...

2:53am-
Still shooting.
I'm starting to look really good cause everyones getting tired and slow and I'm just getting warmed up and on top of my game...!

3:11am-
I spotted a drift of smoke and we quick put out a cigarette that was trying to start a trash fire.

4:42am-
Wrapped. For good.
Now to pack and take it all back to the studio.
And all the other interns and help left hours ago.

6:51am-
Got home and shay had brought someone named Nolan home and now she's asleep on the couch and we somehow ended up on the floor...
Guess I should sleep then...

4/28/10

What humbugs we are, who pretend to live for Beauty, and never see the Dawn!
~Logan Pearsall Smith

8:30am-
On set with my coffee and ready to go.

8:42am-
Sent on an errand to 3rd ave.

9:58am-
This actress, Pat Patterson, (so far) is a polite DIVA. Snuffing and nose held high.
This is when someone like shay would be handy to have around to put her in her place.

6:19pm-
Standing on the sidewalk waiting to pack and head to the park.

Talking about standing in front of someone walking down the street with the clapper and looking at the top of a building and saying 'street scene, take 4, action!' clapping it in front of their face and then walking off.

Sunset-
Shooting at the park.

9:04pm-
Yup. Beer is still gross.

10:02pm-
Some girl playing pool said she loved how big my hair was and had to touch it. A 'white guys afro'.

10:55pm-
Talking about Kubrick films.
The production. The direction. The invention...

10:55pm-
I won the punching machine in the head-butt competition.
212. The next highest was 90.

12;17am-
A black guy who's been friendly and punching the punching machine with us says to some other guy:
'you hang out with black guys..?? You must be broke.'

12:20am-
Three tom Collins... Only paid for one.
Heading home....

Home-
Micheal bought us some groceries and cooked some shrimp pasta.

4/27/10

Life is something to do when you can't get to sleep.
-Fran Lebowitz

Morning-
Mom calls.

Morning-
Shay come shone from an audition or something and tells me about something.

3:24pm-
I get up and get some coffee and sit on the balcony.
Pics

8:47pm-
Get back from the convenience store. What a strange way to spend $8.... 2 rolls of (2/$1) powdered doughnuts, a coffee drink, 2 Arizona teas and a bottle of ketchup...

4/26/10

Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.
~James Matthew Barrie

7 - 9am-
Dreamt about zombies taking care of other peoples babies. It was pretty scary and when I woke up I would have been scared about it, but then I remembered... 'babies...??'
And laughed about it and fell back asleep.

11:31am-
For real getting up.
I don't know why I put it off for so long every morning. Being up early isn't that bad once you just get up!

2:06pm-
Ok. Someone else called a store a bodaga. I'll stop making fun of shay now...

2:21pm-
Some city marshals just came and busted on someones door until they opened up.
Then threw his stuff out the the door and kicked him out.

4:35pm-
A large black man has been buying me lunch a lot this week.
Today it's Chinese.

6:40pm-
A muted football video game is always going in the background for the hundreds of little minutes spent waiting on something.

8:21pm-

8:55pm-
Make out scene.
We all have to pretend to not watch.....

9:27pm-
'Love' scene.
All non personnel must leave the room.

1:00am-
Shoot wrapped.
Going out for drinks with the crew.
Unlike me. But it's time to change things up and actually meet people.

2:03am-
Siting in a circle, everyone talking.
i feel like im in a dirty grungy version of cheers.

2:57am-
The writer/director/lead actor and the lead actress leave.

3:54am-
The sound guys leave.

4:11am-
"thanks for the drink, man."
"yeah, no problem. See ya Wednesday..?"
"Yeah. 8 o clock. I'll see ya there."
"Cool."

Me and the Grip and the DP leave.
The old dive bar is empty now.

4:28am-
Me and some other guy just got on this train. The four other people in here are passed out homeless guys.

6:41am-
By the time I get home, get some food, take a shower and get in bed, it's starting to get light outside.
Good thing I have a fort over my bed.

4/25/10

“Love is when two people know everything about each other and are still friends.”

3:16pm-
Had a dream that I was throwing up and woke up to myself spitting.
Had a dream that I was in a fight with someone and they kicked me in the neck and I woke up gagging with a sore neck.

6:28pm-
Waiting for the bus to church.

6:47pm-
The plan:
Church.
Down the 1st ave for Chinese food. (even though it's so far away, it comes in reusable tupperware containers. And THATS what were after.)
A store for light bulbs. (and thread.)
Back home to watch Risky Business.

7:28pm-
Church.
(starts.)

9:37pm-
Chinese food.
(beef + broccoli and chicken + veggitables.)

10:50pm-
Risky.
(business.)

12:29am-
Shays being annoying.
He got mad and left me to clean up everything. Living room. Dishes. Garbage...
Can't say I'm surprised.

It's been slightly annoying for 21 years. Why would I think it'd be anything different this time...?

4/24/10

I am never bored anywhere: being bored is an insult to oneself.
~Jules Renard

10:18am-
On our way downtown to the angelfood place.
Still so sleepy.
I HAD decided to come right back home and take a nap, but it's so nice and refreshing outside today it's making me want to be up.

10:27am-
Train is so crowded with foreigners. I think they're speaking French or Swedish.

3:02pm-
I've been searching in the Internet or hours on how to use this plaster. Then finally I just fell asleep and a guy in my dream told me how!?
And I woke up pretty sure he was right!

6:45pm-
When I have an idea that makes me chuckle to myself I assume it's a good one.
So I'm heading out to get some duct tape.

7:34pm-
Start.

9:05pm-
Finished.

9:52pm-
Head to chris' house. Don't know why.
His friend meredith is there.

11 something a. -
Shay shows up with a burger.
Yum.

11 something b. -
Merediths roommate Emily shows up.

Notes:
Meredith- makes (or has made) preserves, is a photographer and has made and knows how to make things out of plaster and silicone.

Emily- interns, at a film studio (that's just getting started) as a receptionist. There going to make a werewolf/witch movie soon.
(that's a 'two in one' problem. Two magic things in one movie is a little over doing it.)

3:11am-
Home.
Met Micheal on the way. He has a few openings at the catering job that he works at that would be really cool.
$17/h, work when you want, get tips and free food. Sounds good to me!

4/23/10

It is the eye of ignorance that assigns a fixed and unchangeable color to every object; beware of this stumbling block.
~Paul Gauguin

(My mom taught me this years ago, i must have been 5 or 6 at the oldest, when we were drawing with some crayons and she drew a tree with a purple trunk and blue leaves. I remember the unsettling shock when i saw this. I was dumbstruck. I use all the crayons now, but i still dont draw outside the lines.)

1:52pm-
Sitting in the subway eating PEZ waiting for the train so I can go comforter shopping.

2:37pm-
In a bed bath and beyond.
I've never appreciated one so much!

3:05pm-
Just walked into a T. J. Maxx along with a gaggle of older ladies.

4:18pm-
A fight just broke out in the park.
Someone said the 'N word' and someone else started trying to beat him up.

5:18pm-
Avatars at the park.

6:02pm-
Just found a new favorite place. It sells plaster and paint and clay and everything that I would normally find in our school room for free.

Note: I decided, along with editing, (but because editing is so precise and thought out and organized) that I'm going to work on molding and sculpting and get good at special effects and things like guts and blood and zombies and monsters (because its more of a hands on 'see what happens' and 'make a mess and hope it works out' kind of thing. Need to stay balanced.)

8:28pm-
Down town in the cool area for a show that started at 8. Were a little late and now it's full. So were looking at sunglasses.

8:36pm-
The guy keeps putting sunglasses on shay telling him 'these are the good ones for you.'

9:07pm-
Went into the dance during intermission.
Slowly realizing how lame these kids really are.
Guuys.... NYU isn't an autocool...

10:47pm-
-In the subway.
-Guy playing a key board singing a soulful song.
-Shay, inspired, starts dancing.
-Lady watching loves it.

12:27am-
Somehow we got involved in a dance off in the hallway with a Latino man who swore he could dance. I'm pretty sure this guy was serious. And also drunk and/or high.
Me and the two older ladies who were with him couldn't stop laughing.
Mostly cause he was so serious.

Said in a slow, drawn out, dramatic Antonio Banderas voice:
"You dance? I dance."

*dancing*

*serious, straight-face dancing*

-The Confrontation

-The Challenge

-The Applause

"Ok. lets see what you got."

*It starts*

*..and intensifies..*

-The Duel

*Double Combat*

*Tricks*

-The 'Dance' of the Duel

-The Spectators (in the background)

*stunts*

"Alright, man... So you CAN dance. ...Not bad, brother."

We left letting him think that he won.
But he still wanted a rematch.
Another day, sir.

12:38am-
Looking for cosmic brownies. Three stores and still can't find any.

12:51am-
Returned with two bags of cereal, three rolls of powdered doughnuts and a honey bun.

3:24am-
We just (started and) finished watching all of the mini series We Could Be Heroes (by Chris Lilley) and also finished more than half of all the terrible junk food we bought.
Now time to go throw up and then to bed. Gotta be up early.

4/22/10

The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.
~Dorothy Parker

1:37pm-
At the SS office.
Not crowded.. But I can tell this is gonna take a while.

2:11pm-
Bought a watch off the street. $5.

4:29am-
Stop at store.
Head to chris'.

6:34pm-
On the way home, Shay is ahead of the crowd and gets in the subway just in time for me to watch him wave as it pulls away.
To bad he doesn't have any keys.

7:58pm-
I love my bed. maybe too much. I need some sheets..!

12:35am-
I really like looking at my watch to see what time it is.

"oh, 12:35. Whatdya know."

1:24am-
Why do I always decide I need something from the store and to go explore the neighborhood in the middle of the night...??

1:26am-
It IS good to know that there's a guy selling fruit from a stand right on the corner all night long.

1:28am-
This convenient store was definitely designed for crackheads. An entire wall dedicated to twinkies and honey buns and zebra cakes etc..
But.. No little Debbie brownies.
Which is all I wanted..

1:32am-
Back home with milk, cookies and popcorn. This will have to do for now.

4/21/10

The problem is, most people quit looking for work when they find a job.
~Author Unknown

11:17am-
Still no one at the studio. Fine.
I'm going to find some breakfast somewhere..!!

12:34pm-
Waited all that time to get into the studio to sit around and read a cosmopolitan until Matt found out where they were shooting and sent me there.

12:41pm-
In the crowded subway three black women start yelling at each other. An unrelated black man a little ways away is the only one brave enough to try to settle them down.

2:41pm-
I'm the 'marker' guy.

3:50pm-
The slate is '16 K - 1'

I get to make up whatever 'K' word I want.
So I said "sixteen. Kermit. Take one. marker!" in a Kermit the frog/Ernie voice.
annoyed sound guy: "hold for laughter.."

5:33pm-
Waiting for the girl to make herself cry. For the last 18 minutes.

6:06pm-
Wrapped for the week.

Earlier-
"special assignment for you: organize this corner cause it's where all this stuff is going."
"Organizing and arranging...? My specialty."
Later- "Nice job.. Actually, that's the best packing I've ever seen..!"
"Tetris M*********er. 22 years of it."
(Also, everyone here is for some reason terrible at organizing and packing equipment.)

10:18pm-
Chinese food.....? Yes.
The best? We'll see.

11:02pm-
Not the BEST...
Ate to much rice. I feel like a pigeon at a wedding.
Pop.

4/20/10

Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it.
-Russell Baker

1:02pm-
I let my shoes get some air on their own personal balcony for the night.

2:38pm-
Just got scanned to get into the IRS building.

2:41pm-
Just got rerouted to the social security office.

3:00pm-
Aall the way down town to make a call and get told to visit the SS office. Which is a few blocks from where I live.

3:44pm-
Found Bryant Park. It's very nice. But it's really more of a small, well cropped field that everyone is allowed to look at. But don't go past the red rope and actually TOUCH the grass..!
(Weird and somewhat sad to see people flock to this place just to sit NEAR some nature...)

7:55pm-
Heading to b&n with shay to write down some information from inside magizines.

8:37pm-
Sitting in b&n, drinking 'starbucks' and reading a bunch of magazines.

2:53am-
Searching through the app store I found a free radio app.
So I got it, set the sleep mode and fell asleep to classical music.

4/19/10

“Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. It's not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it's when you've had everything to do, and you've done it.”
-Margaret Thatcher

8:34am-
Im up with coffee made sitting in bed with the covers wrapped all around me... Now I get the whole snuggie idea.

8:58am-
This coffee is unusually satisfying this morning. Warm and relaxing like the woods...

9:54am-
Sent off some packages and now on my way downtown. Only an hour ahead of schedule. I need to time this better.

10:52am-
Found a good pre-schooltime reading spot.

10:59am-
Studio not open yet so I was invited to a yarn store up stairs.
"but you can come to my yarn store if you like.."
"um .....ok..!!"
So colorful...?!

1:55pm-
Talked with... Forgot her name already... But she's an intern here too. From Florida. So now there's a producer and an... 'art director'...? intern.

2:05pm-
GENTRY!!!
is her name...!

2:12pm-
Awkward time... Standing around while I wait for Neil to get his stuff together and we start taking equipment down stairs.

Listening to them in the other room griping about how Neil sent out emails and none of the other interns replied. Even talking trash about Shelly (the girl sitting in the car outside) and her excuses (second person today to gripe her out while she's not around).
"I sent out five emails and the kid who's been here one day is the only one who responded?! And within an hour...! And they all have iPhones!!?!"

4:03pm-
We packed the car full. Only room for one person to ride. Of course I let the girl go. He gave me subway directions but I said i was just gonna wait until they weren't looking and fly.

4:46pm-
On set.

Set up. Just waiting for the actress to get here.

8:12pm-
Still on set. Still waiting.

9:30pm-
Jokes are happening.*

About to roll.

". . . . So he went up on stage and, looking at his note cards, said, '..sorry, but miss Frances can't be here today because she's 111 years old..!' and every body clapped and cheered and then he looked at his notecards again and said, 'oh, I'm sorry. She's ill.'"

. . . Probly better if you HEAR it.....

9:54pm-
I feel bad for the director/writer/actor... "The catering has arrived and we still haven't shot one damn shot."

10:32pm-
Lunch.

12:00am-
Just showed the key grip the 'rocketship knucks'. He thought it was incredible. like I made up a new language.
"yeah.. my twelve year old brother taught me that. let me show you "the snail.""

1:47am-
We set up and right before we started shooting we got kicked out of the gym.

2:09am-
Done. Wrapped. Packed. Heading home.

3:35am-
Home. Cleaned. And ready to relax.

5:13am-
The end.
