3/30/10

The world is governed more by appearance than realities so that it is fully as necessary to seem to know something as to know it.
-Daniel Webster

1:04pm-
Filled out my school contract.
And called pettula, the school administrator, as my 'at least one important phone call per day'.

1:14pm-
Just found $140 in my old wallet...!?

4:12pm-
Had to go buy envelopes, stamps, sit at Starb and load/address/stamp em, then stand in a ling line at the PostOff.. but I finally mailed off all the things I've been needing to.. Whew.

4:32pm-
"Hi, my name is Ethan and I'm a monk--"
"Hi! I'm Zane and I'm a Christian. Lets talk!"
The monks in the subway don't talk to me anymore.
(You only have to know less about being a monk than they DO know about being one.)

6:40pm-
Made some pizzas...
I prefer the term 'extra dark crispy'.

10:41pm-
Courtney and Katherine stop by to check on the cat and Courtney packs some things for her trip home tomorrow.

12:06am-
I sell the remaining half of my bottle of whiskey to them for $5.

4:06am-
Reading about the Canon XH A1s for a little bit. Cause I've been wanting one for a few years now and they're only $3,500...
Hopefully I can at least dream I have it..

2/29/10

“Success is the progressive realization of worthwhile, predetermined, personal goals.”
-Paul J. Meyer

8:46am-
I'm already up with coffee in hand.
I want to make a habit of calling at least one person of importance every day.

11:02am-
A broker from UBS called ME...?!

11:46am-
Standing outside in a doorway (cause it's raining) waiting to go inside and meet these people.

12:46pm-
Just stepped out of the Red Line Studio interview. Everyone there seemed really nice and laid back. Good relaxed vibe.
I was my normal easy-to-get-along-with self, medium charm, maybe too professional, but good as far as easy going. Hopefully they liked me.

1:12pm-
I used to wonder what the nice/appropriate way to ask if you could help someone was, then a few weeks ago I heard someone say "may I offer you my help?".
I finally got to say that and help carry a baby (in a stroller) up some stairs.
[note to self: this particular subway station has TWO sets of stairs. Next time maybe stick around and help on BOTH.)

1:35pm-
I WAS gonna mail a bunch of things from this place and give them a lot of money, but then they kicked me out into the rain cause I had to make a phone call.
When the lady started snapping at me and saying 'no phones!' instead of stepping outside I wish I woulda said something like "shh shh... Quiet down lady. I'm on the phone." She would have liked that.
Dumb hippies.

2:48pm-
Cold and rainy outside... Perfect for sitting on the couch watching movies and eating chicken noodle soup next to the window.
So that's what I'm doing.

4:50pm-
Today I talked to my house finding people, my school administrator, my mom, the broker who called earlier and Meg. AND I called Jessi earlier. I've talked to so many people today!!

7:28pm-
The cat, Lola, has been especially mischievous today. So I made a list of rules for her.

And taped it to the fridge and told her to look them over, memorize them and follow them.

1:40am-
Just woke up.
I guess that means at some point i fell asleep..

4:51am-
Spaghettios, heroes and now back to bed. For real this time.

“It's surprising how much of memory is built around things unnoticed at the time”
-Barbara Kingsolver

5:46pm-
Stop to sit at a starbucks before finding my way to church.
Today will have to be my last sick, slow, late starting day.
Tomorrow it all starts.

6:50pm-
Texted someone who hates me to try to fix something I messed up.

8:47pm-
This kid was loving this doughnut.

until he just fell.. asleep.

8:53pm-
The same girl who was sitting next to me at starbucks is now in the same car of the same train at the same time I am....!?
What are the odds....?!
Have I already mentioned how weird it is that I see people and then again at some random place I see them again...

9:07pm-
Just happened again...!
Someone I saw waaay up down earlier I just way down here in union square...!?

11:44pm-
i walked out of my room, into the living room, "mmm... smells good in here."
"yeah...?" he said, "wanna try some??"
"nah, I dont do that stuff. it just makes people act stupid. I only like acting awesome." i said as I walked towards the kitchen. there was a girl sitting on the couch with him. "why do you only have one shoe on..?" she asked. i stopped and looked down. "see," i said trying to remember why i would have taken off one shoe, "i dont need any help from drugs."

“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.”
-Andre Gide

11:28am-
Why would somebody invent aluminum mugs....???? Do they not realize that coffee gets cold and then you have to pour it into a bowl before you can microwave it..??!

1:28pm-
Justin Bieber tickets are $500+...?!
Who IS this kid?!

2:37pm-
These are hula hoop girls. Kind of a weird and awkward talent.. Especially to do in the subway..
But they are good at it- kicking a leg straight up thru the hula hoop and keeping it moving the whole time and the other playing Yann Tiersen on her harpsichord..

3:54pm-
Hanging out at the Museum. What Cooool stuff....!
This is one the cameras they used to film the Wizard of OZ..?!

About to watch a short film based on 'Higglety Pigglety Pop! or: there must be more to life.'..!

its not really a kid movie. kinda creepy...

7:28pm-
I was just bragging about my cherry preserves and I found this...
I had no idea all these different kinds of cherries even existed!!

8:49pm-
Were trying to make chicken and dumplings... We had to add more dumplings.. And then more water... Until we finally had accidentally doubled the normal 'family size'.....
I hope it turns out good.

[2 hours later- it WAS good. And I think I ate a pound of it..]

3:00 - 4:43am-
She calls, drunk and crying, and just wants me to talk....
I tell her about my day, and the museum, and the cat that i know understands English...
She wants answers. And I always feel like Im so close to having them... But don't.
How am I supposed to help other people when I can't even get MY OWN SELF a bed to sleep in...?!?!

"Not a shred of evidence exists in favor of the idea that life is serious."
-Brendan Gill

1:57pm-
I either wake up at 8am or 1:30pm... Thats a big gap....

2:13pm-
Today I will be given more money than I've ever had in the last 22 years of my life...
In less than 3 hours I will be a grown-up.

3:18pm-
"(intentionally over exaggerated) *GGHHHAAAAAASSPP!!* I just ended up on Dennis Coopers blog..?!"
Me: "...that literally means nothing to me.

6:02pm-
Just deposited a check made out to 'Zanes brain and/or legal guardian'.
Thanks brain. We'll put this away for years and years and then use it to get you an education and make something of yourself.
JOKES!!! I'm the fun uncle guardian who says 'LET'S PAAARRTYY!!!'

2:01am-
Finally finished a movie that already had three strikes against it.
A three hour period piece by Kubrick.

4:22am-
As I continue with my new hobby of reading about interesting people and following the links to more interesting people, I happen to learn about the Maurice Sendak book 'Higglety Pigglety Pop! Or: there must be more to life'. A book that is very likely sitting on a shelf at home.
And then about the short film that Spike Jonze produced based on that book.
And THEN about the Museum of Moving Images that's playing that film. Starting tomorrow!
Convenient.

"Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome."
-Booker T. Washington

11:29am-
Just got off the phone with the school administrator.. He was prep talking me about the interview on Monday.
'show up on time, wear a collared shirt, show your audacity..!'
I think I got this.

I guess I'll get up now...

12:27pm-
I know animals can understand what I'm saying. I don't know if it's just me, or they just pretend not to know what humans are saying so they don't have to do it..
I looked at the cat just as she was about to jump on a chair, and she saw me look and backed down. I said 'you can get up there.' and she looked at me for a second, then turned back around and jumped up on the chair.

6:32pm-
I guess I look nice or compassionate or just like I have money cause this is the second time TODAY that a give-money-to-homeless-kids person has stopped me. And I usually get stopped 3 or 4 times a week.
"IM a homeless kid...! I don't have a place to live either! But as soon as I get a refrigerator to put a picture on I'll get back to y'all." has been my current excuse.

7:10pm-
In line for an Andrew W. K. autograph. I think.

8:52pm-
AWK just signed a photo of himself.

and then hugged me.

11:14pm-
New hobby:
Make a list of interesting, significant and influential people and each day pick one and learn all about them.
Today: Stanley Kubrick.
Even though I'm not a BIG fan of his, he DID set new standards for futuristic sci-fi films with 2001: A Space Odyssey, and pushed the limits on a lot of other things throughout his career.

3:18am-
Just accidently watched Spike Jonze's short about robots and robot life.
(got 31 minutes...?)
I'M HERE.

4:38am-
Max's "manager" left. i guess i'll go take a shower and go to bed.
i didnt watch ANY heroes tonight..?!?

3/24/10

As a people, we have become obsessed with Health. There is something fundamentally, radically unhealthy about all this. We do not seem to be seeking more exuberance in living as much as staving off failure, putting off dying. We have lost all confidence in the human body.
~Lewis Thomas, The Medusa and the Snail, 1979

10:21am-
Woke up from phone calls... Not sleepy anymore, but I feel sick and tired.

5:25pm-
Film connection called to set up an interview with RED LINE STUDIOS...

5:58pm-
I need to work on my message leaving skills. I just sound like an idiot.

9;56pm-
Making myself leave the house. Medicine and peanut butter.

10:16pm-
Just got peanutbutter, jelly, bread, milk and cookies and medicine for less than eating out for 4 nights.
now im getting it.

2:40am-
Just watched Heroes for like 3 solid hours... And I'm still not done.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

3/23/10

All change is not growth, as all movement is not forward.
-Ellen Glasgow

3:21pm-
This is the line for a free ice cream cone from Ben & Jerrys.
I got in it anyway.

4:48pm-
It's a little rainy and cold.. But I refuse to go back home and sit around bored!
So I'll sit at Starb and sip some coffee and read a magazine.

5:55pm-
At an art gallery looking at Chris' picture.

7:28pm-
Got crowded.

9:07pm-
Just went grocery shopping with phelps. Took 10 minutes to pick out the right jelly- blackberry, no seeds.
And the bread was a whole other story.
Not a wasted dollar.
Respectable.

(I got some soup and crackers. Now I just need a woman to make it and bring it to me.)

3/22/10

It's not enough that I should succeed - others should fail.
-David Merrick

1:20pm-
I have a morning routine now. It's just nowhere near the 'morning'.

6:04pm-
First time to taste milk that's gone bad. Tastes like cheese and markers.

Makes me remember the handful of times I've seen my dad taste test our milk when we were little-
Sniff... Look inside.. Take a little sip. And then instantly spit it out in the sink and start gagging and dumping the milk out.
Thanks dad.

12:05am-
Doing math with sage.
It's a little tricker over the phone and with nothing to write on.

12:47am-
Realized I hadn't eaten and went out to find something. Max came too. Which was strange.

4:02am-
Best food to steal from a roommate:
Peanut butter.
It goes a long way.
It fills you up.
And its hard to tell if someones been in your peanut butter.

3/21/10

Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.
-Winston Churchill

2:58pm-
Courtney comes by the apartment to check on things. I get a lot of new movies to watch.

5:10pm-
I'm drinking 5 carrots and 2 apples.
Drinking them.
Drinking.
Them..

5:28pm-
Katherine gave me a marzipan cookie that tasted how we always expected play-dough to taste.
So good.

5:53pm-
A girl is wearing black sunglasses on the subway. Can't tell what she's looking at. I stare right at her. She doesnt move.
Hmm...

9:48pm-
I'm doing better at staying out late. I'm usually home before 8.

12:58am-
I've been playing ska music through the house speakers all night in hopes to get max to subconsciously make music that's a little less pretentious and a little more fun...!!!
He just came out of his room (right as a song ended), faked yawned, and closed his door.
We'll start again tomorrow.

3/20/10

“Laziness may appear attractive, but work gives satisfaction.”
-Anne Frank

8:27am-
Meg calls from starbucks to tell me I'm late for work. They must be bored over there.

10:07am-
Sitting at the park reading/drinking coffee.
A little boy runs after a bird yelling and throwing bread crumbs at it. "ITS FOR YOU!!!"

1:28pm-
Finally got to give directions to people.. I was even nice this time.
Now.. Hopefully they were right.

2:53pm-
This is the part where I stand in a long line for a $4 slice of pizza.

2:06pm-
Finally got the pizza.
13 minutes. So worth it.

4:28pm-
there was a little boy, maybe 2, who had just got the hang of walking. he went up to the railing around the park and started to climb. his dad walked up behind him. and just stood there; drinking his coffee. and the boy climbed. completely confident he could do this new thing he named "climbing" on his own. he got as high as he could, about 4 inches off the ground, and stumbled. fell. would have fallen. but his father, barely moving a hand, caught him. almost like he was waiting. and, without a thought, pushed him back up. to finish climbing.
and the boy climbed to the top.

thanks dad. for always having my back. whether i knew it or not.

1:57am-
Just watched the stupidest movie ever. But I had to finish it so I could make fun of it as a whole.

“Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money, but you cannot get more time.”
-Jim Rohn

1:33pm-
Attempt 15-
Failure.
Now I have to eat my pop tarts and drink my morning coffee in the middle of the afternoon...

3:47pm-
Turns out it's not Saturday yet. I'm heading out to look for a bag again.

4:41pm-
Quitting redbull is probly the equivelant of quitting smoking.. You see it.. And want one... And everyone else gets to!?!

5:12pm-
26R.
I don't know what that means (or why i love trying on suit jackets) but that's what size fits me best.

6:37pm-
Finally got to carry someones luggage up the stairs for them.
Next time I'll be more polite and say you're welcome instead of just smiling and running off.

10:02pm-
I can only tell when I need to shower by the length of my beard.. I still dont know when to change jeans... I'm still on my second pair.

12:26am-
So bored that I cleaned my boots...
The whole wet/shampoo/scrub/dry..

3/18/10

“I like the word 'indolence'. It makes my laziness seem classy.”
-Bern Williams

1:25pm-
Woke up at 8am, and 9am, and then 10 and felt awake and rested... But lazy.
Ok. Saturday I'm starting early.

3:52pm-
First time to not need a coat.
Aahh... Nice.

hmmmm... Chest pain. From growing I hope...?
I'll make a "if you find me dead' card to keep on me just in case.

4:31pm-
Watching a guy trying to parallel park a minivan. Bumping bumpers back and forth. Dude. It's not gonna fit.

6:28pm-
Been walking all around SoHo making phone calls and looking for a bag.
I need a good bag.
Now a break (nap) at home before I go back out..

8:34pm-
Heading back out to keep looking. I know there's one out here..

12:56am-
So bored I'm reading up on home theatre projectors. With this kind of boredom I'll be an expert at everything!!

2:49-
Project 'up at 8'.
Attempt 15-

“Don't wish it were easier, wish you were better.”
-Jim Rohn

1:59pm-
Coffee and a left over scone.

6:05pm-
After filling out forms, running to the bank to get a check, emailing, faxing and forging signatures, Im finally done at the brokers office.
Now I'm looking for a hot dog stand to invest this dollar bill.

7:02pm-
Fiiiinally found a hot dog for $1.
Good thing I stopped for pizza on the way.

8:58pm-
Just woke up from a nap.
Well... A 4th nap..
So tired..

3/16/10

Except during the nine months before he draws his first breath, no man manages his affairs as well as a tree does.
-George Bernard Shaw

9:38am-
Keith the broker called.
I said i was busy. Too early..

11:58am-
Some reason I happen to check the mail on my way out.
And there just so happen to be mail for me from my school!

12:10pm-
I've become one of those guys who runs around old, slow people to catch the train on time...

3:38pm-
Gave an application to the MANAGER of a b&n. Told him that applications always make me sound lame so I wanted to meet him in person and explain myself.
That app will stay on the top of the stack.

4:31pm-
Walking around the CITY part of the city. Looking for Rockefeller plaza.

4:53pm-
Found it.

5:21pm-
Eatin a hot dog outside of Carnegie Hall..

5:52pm-
Sitting in central park drinking coffee..

9:55pm-
You know who this fried chicken place was targeting when chicken comes with ketchup or hot sauce.

10:11pm-
Used all the ketchup it came with.. Of course we don't have any here..
Looks like I'll be eating the rest of my chicken and fries with soy sauce and mayonnaise....

1:48am-
Just washed my hands thoroughly, with warm water and soap, for over ten minutes.
It gets really boring here..

2:54am-
Is it mean to make fun of the way someone talks....? Nothing against HER... it's not my fault she talks the way that people exaggeratedly make themselves sound to sound like a stupid girl.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

2/15/10

“Don't make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can't take their eyes off you.”
-Maya Angelou

3:42pm-
Walking down the street feels jumping in freezing water.
Kind of good and refreshing, but terrible enough that you wouldnt wanna jump back in.

4:39pm-
Stop for lunch with my broker between looking at places.
Pazer called. Gotta go sign a check today...

4:46pm-
He paid..
Hmm......
Creepy...?

5:34pm-
Just drank 3 hours of a '6hour' to get to Pazers on time.

6:31pm-
Just endorsed a $100,000 check.

12:50am-
I think Max used MY glass. (the one I got from the bar down stairs for $5 that came with a free drink.) and since he's dirtied EVERY SINGLE other dish, I'm drinking milk out of a wine glass.
At least it makes my pop tart dinner seem a little fancier.

3/14/10

We can't plan life. All we can do is be available for it.
-Lauryn Hill

9:26am-
Suns up but it's storming outside.
Just like I said.. 9 comes and I start getting sleepy. Guess I'll nap for a little while...

5:09pm-
Up and heading out.

6:12pm-
Stop for some coffee and scones on the way to church.

7:00pm-
I'm early.

1:48am-
I made a promise. I dont even say the word 'promise' unless I'm completely serious about something; but i did. cause I am.

Sunday, March 14, 2010

3/13/10

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me".
-Erma Bombeck

9:22am-
Up at 8:30 to go look at places.
Then the guy called so I canceled cause it's so wet an drizzly and cold and windy and bad outside.

9:35am-
So, since I was already out of the house, I went to the closest Starb and talked to an employee about NOT NY.
And, of course, if you give me coffee, I'm gonna want some toast, eggs and hash browns to go with it.

3:58pm-
Yeah... So I came home, ate my breakfast and then went back to sleep. Until now.
And I'm only awake now cause there's a cellist in the living room and I wanna hear her play.
....I wish I could do that.

6:09pm-
After reading for a few solid hours, I'm off to find a burrito.

6:28pm-
7 cold blocks of rain and wind.. But i found one.

10:58pm-
Took a swig of whiskey straight outta the bottle.
It was like kissing a girl you've never kissed before for the first time.
That head swirling 'what just happened?!' feeling...
But, even so, I still cant like whiskey.

1:00am-
Yeah.
I'm watching the Muppets Take Manhattan.
Yeah...
By myself.

1:49am-
Left the house (for the first time without my phone....?!). Came back with poptarts, chips and popcorn. They're gonna think I been doing drugs...

5:08am-
Maybe I won't sleep tonight.
Just keep checking off the movies on my long "unwatched" list.
Amadeus. Check.
Muppets take manhattan. Check.
Next I think... A Clockwork Orange..?
Then it'll be time for my morning coffee and reading.

3/12/10

What is the use of a house if you haven't got a tolerable planet to put it on?
-Henry David Thoreau

9:11am-
Up for coffee and reading and classical music before the day starts.

10:52am-
Been reading about what a script and movie should be.. Getting excited about the feature film idea I've been hanging on to for so long...!!

11:18am-
Asked a guy wear he got his cool bag.
It was from new Zealand.
And so was he. Accent and everything.
(three wise men)

11:28am-
"Take the 5 to 86th and then the 6 to 103. Then you're just two blocks away."
-New Yorker talk

1:02pm-
Just hanging with some guy who's trying to find me a place to live...
He seems a little too nice....

2:03pm-
See my reflection in a window and say "what an attractive young man...!"
Other people say "what an attractive and unfortunately crazy out of his mind young man...!"

2:40pm-
Talked to a man about an apartment-
Classic old Italian man:
He would be very friendly (and was to his tenents) as long as you gave him his money. Otherwise he may break your fingers or throw you out of the place in a moments notice.
After talking to him for a while and charming him (bringing up that i was from Texas, how I do business in an upfront and honest way, that I taught TaeKwonDo (he used to take), he said I looked like chuck Norris, I said I get that a lot, talking about his airforce past in Davy Crockett days in San Antonio and relating to him in a "raised with values" kinda way) finally got him WANTING me to rent the place.
Ha. I win again.
NY - 0
Me - 2

3:41pm-
I WILL find a subway (sandwich place) and get a tuna sandwich...!
And I DID!
Only took 16 blocks thru the rain...

One side of my nose gets colder than the other... Hmm.. Weird...

7:10pm-
Looking through craigslist to find a place, I noticed something a little.. fishy. "to good to be true" type of thing.
They claimed to be using RE/MAX to do international payment services to get a deposit for an apartment..
Anyway, after looking at the RE/MAX website and then the link they sent I noticed some subtle differences and emailed RE/MAX asking about it.
They replied shortly saying it WAS a scam and they would get their legal deparent on it.
And then, just now, they sent another email from their 'detective', I guess, asking for any corrospondence I had with this scammer.
So... I defintely started the stopping of a scam/scammer.
I wonder if I'll get a reward?! Like a free house or something...??!??

11:22pm-
Bed..?! Already?!?
Yeah, well I just woke up from an accidental nap. So, yeah.

11:34pm-
Oh wait.
Got another email from the scammer.
...and I think I just set up a sting operation.

3/11/10

Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts.
-Arnold Bennett

10:35am-
Another call from Malibu.

1:51pm-
Looked at another place. Roomier. But still sketchy. And I had to walk past a street called 'knickerbocker'.

...Bobbitty bop.

2:16pm-
Just watched a guy come into the subway, get a stick he had hidden down there, and use it to reach thru the rails and open the emergency exit door from the opposite side.
Mixed opinions of this guy.

2:46pm-
Finally got a drink from Starb that was PERFECT...!

4:53pm-
Bought two movies for the price of a third of one.
Deal.
[KISS meets the phantom in the park; the Time Machine (1960)]

5:42pm-
The cat uses my leg as a bridge from the couch to the chair.

7:53pm-
Aahhh.... It's good to hear a friendly voice. Theres something about tiff... its like.. no matter where we end up, i feel that some how, we'll always be those kinds of friends.

1:17am-
After searching for places to live all day, then going to hang out with Courtney and Katherine for a little bit, I go back out to find some dinner.
I'm thinking... An unhealthy burger and cheese fries..??

yup.

2:37am-
Going to look at potential living accommodations in the morning. Gotta be up early enough to get awake and have my coffee and get awesome.
(ook.. some of that doesnt take that long.)
Bed.

Msg: "Can you believe the 24 hours store in houston was out of bananas!?!? No smoothie."

11:46am-
I sleep the best from 6am to 10am... So why should I deprive myself of that quality sleep?

4:21pm-
Why do I keep wasting my time going all the way up to Harlem to look at places...??!
Im not gonna live in a creepy/dingy neighborhood...!!

4:58pm-
The film school called about my application. They told me only 5%, about 1 out of 20 people, get in the program. I told them if I liked what I saw and felt like it would put me where I wanna be, I'd accept.

5:12pm-
Starting at 137th:
The farther south I go, the better looking the people get.
Take me where the attractive people live...!? That's where I need to be..!

6:39pm-
Just looked at a place in the upper east side. The first place that I liked enough to live.

7:17pm-
Had to stop to check out this TaeKwonDo place. Didn't go in though.
Not this time.

But I may need my uniform soon.

12:21am-
After Chinese food and watching tv for hoours.. I think I'll REALLY try to get to bed early to night and get up early tomorrow. REALLY.

3/9/10

I couldn't wait for success, so I went ahead without it.
-Jonathan Winters

10:26am-
Chris texts about going to lunch.
When I respond he says "you're up before noon!?! I'm proud of you."

11:40am-
I wake to an email full of party places, dates and times.
Dont know who sent this.
But thanks.

2:09pm-
This is shake shack.
Really good burgers.
Really long lines.

2:59pm-
Stepped into a Starb. Line to the door.

2:15pm-
At least it was free...!

3:25pm-
Feeling very graphic today.
I think I'm SUPPOSED to be some kind of writer...

7:18pm-
Took a mid-day shower and finally changed into some new pants. (even though these weren't really dirty..)

8:35pm-
Deciding whether to go out tonight or not....
Buuh...

11:12pm-
Took me 3 hours and I changed my mind four times, but I decided to go out.

1:21am-
After 'discussing' living situations with 'roommate' Max, I realized what it is about Texas (or the south in general) that everyone loves. And that 'Southern Hospitality' is definitely a real thing.
I hope I don't ever lose that.

3/8/10

I honestly think it is better to be a failure at something you love than to be a success at something you hate.
-George Burns

2:09pm-
Waking up and saying 'oh... It's not even 2 yet.' is not a reason to go back to sleep.

2:40pm-
I think my computer has had a stroke.
It's going so slow and glitchy and losing battery power quickly.. It's behaving like a real person who got hit by a car..
I guess I can go easy on it for a while..
I understand, old buddy.

3:17pm-
Called my first friend, Sofia.
She's gonna make some calls and see what we can do about a GOOD living situation.

4:02pm-
"cool beans."
"ok... Lizzie McGuire."

4:31pm-
'You can drive my car'...
I get it now.

6:14pm-
Back to back mirrors in fitting rooms- good for seeing how well something fits. Or for seeing how well I already dress.

7:02pm-
Accidentally went grocery shopping... But for clothes.
I was just looking for a good tie?!?

7:57pm-
A band playing in the subway.
People found it good enough to start dancing.

8:14pm-
An old lost chinese man asks a 'chinese' man if he spoke Chinese. "uhh... No..?"
Then on the train he sat down and said to his friend, "i wonder why he asked ME...?"

(ITS CAUSE YOURE CHINESE, DUDE!!)

8:38pm-
Accidently went shopping.
I'm going for a mix between Reed (from Criminal Minds) and Chuck Bass (from Gossip Girl).

10:somethingpm-
Courtney comes by.
Max starts yelling.
Courtney leaves.

It's good to be able to just grab your coat and run out the door.

11:40pm-
I feel like I could be an inspirational speaker.... Someone to show you how to be confident with yourself and feel on top of things.
...and how to party!

"Better to do something imperfectly than to do nothing flawlessly."
- Dr. Robert Schuller

4:29pm-
Sitting in the subway waiting for the train.. thinking..
I've been wearing these same pants since I got to this city.

5:12pm-
Church.
God.
Whew.
Refreshing.

7:17pm-
After 10 minutes of standing at the counter of the Chinese food place and no one even looking up, I went and sat down at a table in the back and kindly yelled "I WANT BROCOLLI AND CHICKEN...!"
and a tiny Chinese voiced yelled back from the kitchen:
"small or laaarge!"

8:44pm-
Finally own some Andrew W. K.

11:58pm-
Slow day.
Bed early tonight. So hopefully I can get up early tomorrow and start my week off right.

"Behold the turtle. He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out."
-James. B. Conant

1:40pm-
Which is more important to you: a gallon of milk, or a roll of scotch tape..?
Cause they cost the same.

1:51pm-
And... The cat truck comes by and all the neighborhood kids run after it.

2:02pm-
Found a lamp in the 'take what you want' stash in the lobby of the apartment. Perfect.

3:28pm-
Heading out to meet chris and enjoy the day...!

3:41pm-
Aparently Saturday is the same as Halloween except instead of demons it's little girls on bikes with training wheels.

Also- apparently boomboxes are out and battery powered ipod docks are in.

4:08pm-
Just hanging out with ZZ Top.

5:27pm-
-Trying to get into a movie for free.
Guards.

5:28pm-
-Trying to get both of us in a movie for one ticket.
Chickens.

5:35pm-
We both bought a ticket.
And popcorn.
At least we snuck in our own drinks...

7:45pm-
#2- Crazy Heart.

10:01pm-
You know a movie is good when it can make you love an old drunk man AND country music all in one sitting.

10:10pm-
"I wanna flask. But what do you even put in it??"
Chris: "whatever you want. You can put bubblebath in it if you want....!"

10:33pm-
Another theatre. Another movie.
Not any other money... though.

12:33am-
On the way home from Alice in Wonderland Chris and I name a few movies we would have rather seen:
-Honey I shrunk the kids
-Mighty Ducks
-Cool Runnings
-Sister Act (or any Whoopie Goldberg movie)
-Blank Check
...It keeps going.

2:33am-
Tried to drink straight whiskey like the Crazy Heart man.
But bleeh!! Couldn't do it!
I'm sorry, Texas, I failed you.
I'm going to bed.

3/5/10

"Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant."
-Robert Louis Stevenson
(Author of Treasure Island and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide.)

11:28am-
Gonna try to develop some kind of morning routine.

2:24pm-
Reading about my new hero: Andrew W. K.

"..As I continued doing research, I saw that Andrew WK is filled with an unstoppable sense of optimism and joy.

Then there’s the interesting fact that, despite his party-anthems, he never had a single drink of alcohol before he turned 21 because he didn't see the point. He only did when he became 21 to see what all the fuss was about.

You may be saying to yourself “what? He didn't drink? What about Party Hard and Party Till You Puke?” That just adds another dimension to the beauty that is Andrew WK. You see, his idea of a party isn't necessarily a drunken, alcohol-induced party. His idea of a party is, instead, a positive energy. I forget which interview he said this in, but he once said that he didn't want to tell people how to party but instead wanted to create a sense of energy and excitement in people for them to party in the way that they feel fit. Whether it be hanging with friends watching movies, sitting by a fire and reading a book or shot gunning beers – anything can be a party if done with the right intention and excitement."
(more?)

3:08pm-
"...a what..? Thumb tac? What's that?"
Who doesn't know what thumb tacs are?!

3:36pm-
In my random chinese food place.
"dear Tasty King,
thanks for having this huge mirror to keep me busy while you take 10 minutes to cook rice.
love, your neighbor,
Zane"

4:45pm-
Made my own green screen studio for some test shoots.
Now...Where's that cat.

I guess he means Texas kings..?

7:36pm-
I love these bucket drummy guys.

8:01pm-

Chipotle.
The Mexican subway.
