4/10/10

When love is not madness, it is not love.
~Pedro Calderon de la Barca

2:00pm-
Let me relate to you the ups and downs of doing laundry in the city.

It starts out good. The excitement of putting $10 in the change machine and yelling 'JACKPOT!' when all the quarters come pouring out.
Then it goes down from there.
A small load, just socks (a months worth, but still) costs 9 quarters. + $.75 for soap.
Second load- a months worth of almost everything else is 13 quarters. + soap.
And a third small load of red things and jeans that I'm afraid will bleed were another 9 + soap. But! It gets more fun! Because after I loaded this load and poured the powdered soap into the tiny hole on top, I find the quarters won't go down to start the washer. So I switch my clothes to the next machine and then realize.... soap. I tear up the little box the soap came in and try to reach in there and spoon some of the soap out.. But that doesn't work at all. Then I think how strange and incredibly convenient it is that I had put a spoon in my bag this morning after stirring my coffee with it. I bend the spoon and save my soap.
And there goes all of ten dollars.
I cash in my last $5 to dry with, but the jackpot doesn't seem as sweet this time.

4:04pm-
Packing the last of my bags and straightening Courtneys room. Took me twenty minutes to fold the blanket at the end of her bed to get it how I wanted it.
I've got everything of mine out of here. Of course, we'll be back to take some dishes, silverware, a fan, her sound system, the microwave and whatever else she claims is hers that she doesn't need/doesn't want max to have.

Now I have to carry three stuffed bags (that don't roll) all the way up town.

10:36pm-
Went shopping at target for some 'basics'. Pillow. Garbage can. Toothpaste... It was a little less than $200.
The hard part is trying to carry it all home. Up and down stairs and on and off trains.. Second big move across town today.

1:23am-
First night sleeping at our own place.

After 4:+am-
Shay and I had some old fashioned laughs, watched a movie and finally decided to try out our new wood floor beds.
