Listening to: Built to Spill - "Goin' Against Your Mind"
12:44pm-
Texts:
Austin: "Hey."
Me: "Hey. Running late. When you thinking of heading to the studio?"
"Whenever. Does running late mean you just woke up?"
"Yeah..."
"I'm running late too, then."
3:14pm-
Finally meet up with Austin at union square. (it was supposed to be closer to 1..)
Were shooting a short, Bereft, today.
First stop- Rickys for blood and a knife.
4:35pm-
At the studio pulling out gear. We realized we need an adapter to hook the mic to the camera.
There aren't any at the studio but I own one.
Looks like I'm going home to get it. Along with extra memory cards and camera batteries.
5:23pm-
Text from Austin:
"Also, bring some sheets if you got em..!"
7:01pm-
I'm back at the studio walking around in the green screen studio waiting for a cab we called to get here.
My knees go weak and I crumble to the floor...
I left it.
The main thing I went to get I LEFT..?!
DAAAANMMNNNN!!!!!!!!
6:48pm-
I call shay. Obviously he doesn't want to get out into this weather and travel all the way to Brooklyn...
6:58pm-
No other options.. I call shay back and after a little more convincing, I got shay to agree to go home (from chris') and get the cable and bring it to brooklyn.
All for the price of a snickers.
Whew. Austin and I sighed a sigh of relief.
7:41pm-
Finally got an SUV cab to stop.
I always feel like we trick them.. They stop thinking we just need a cab ride and once they agree we start folding down seats and loading in all our bulky gear.
They probly make a note to never again stop for people on this corner.
Pretty soon they'll all know what's up and there won't be any cabs left to trick..
10:21pm-
Austin: "Is it time to shoot this?"
11:32pm-
After we dressed the set, set up lights, talked over the shots and how to get them, we realized we don't have a XLR cable, so were working with 1 foot of cable attached to the boom pole.
11:43pm-
And we can't even get the sound to work anyway.*
After a lot of research and trying other options we call it a night.
"We've worn ourselves out all day being producers.."
"True. We should produce all day one day and make sure things work. Like sound. And then when we have all the gear and everything ready, we wake up the next day and change modes. And that we can just....."
"Be artists. Creators. And not have to worry if technical things are gonna work."
*We couldn't just 'not get sound to work'. We actually had a dynamic mic which requires Phantom power which our cameras don't provide.
We'll need to get a battery powered mixer to run through or find a good quality condenser mic.
12:02am-
Austin gives Sean and I a shot of Calebs cheap, gross whiskey.
Not because we want it.
12:07am-
"How you feeling Zane?"
"Kinda sick from that terrible shot."
"Yeah. That's why I don't do it."
12:08am-
"Are you going back to Harlem tonight?"
"Can we not call it hawwrlmb...."
"Are you a little drunk....???!"
"YOOU did this to me...!!"
3:5:55am - 4:14am-
At alex and her roommate Rachels place.
I tried on a few of Alexs sweaters.
And then a few pairs of her pants.
Showed them off to Austin and Rachel.
Eventually ended up in just a beaded Asian robe Alex told me to wear.
I don't know what they thought about my outfits cause they wouldn't stop laughing... But I thought I looked great.
We you don't live in a house with a dress up box, you have to make do.
4:21am-
Austin and I.
On the balcony in our underwear.
It's snowing.
If you were to take this all out of context and not explain how this happened, this situation might seem a little silly..
But it wasnt. More... serene.
4:33am-
Sitting in a chair in the living room by myself at Alexs place looking at a bankys book about to go to sleep on the couch.
A guy walks out of another bedroom, naked.
He sees me: "whoa...!! Hmm... Kinda weird."
"Yup. kinda wierd" I repeat.
